BAKU (AZERBAIJAN), Nov 26 (Bernama) --Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) aims to become a sustainable campus with the goal of creating a healthy and conducive environment for all staff and students.

Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said aspects of energy usage and conservation of resources would be emphasised to realise the goal.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also UniMAP Chancellor said this after leading a delegation from the UniMAP 2017 Knowledge Expedition programme to the Baku Higher Oil School (Baki Ali Neft M?kt?bi) here yesterday.

According to him, UniMAP's sustainable campus strategy was divided into three phases, with the first phase comprising campaigns on awareness, appreciation and imbibing a sustainable culture, apart from identifying sustainable modules to be implemented.

In the second phase, a clear 'green' governance structure will be implemented along with reinforcing projects initiated in the first phase, as well as creating a green endowment fund.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said for the 3rd phase which was expected to begin in 2020, projects implemented in the first and second phases would be further enhanced and empowered, with significant changes in the operations of the sustainable campus.

Earlier, he was welcomed by Baku Higher Oil School rector, Elmar Gasimov.

Also present in the entourage were UniMAP deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Mohd Fo'ad Sakdan and leaders from the UniMAP 2016-2017 Student Representative Council.

The delegation has been in Azerbaijan since Tuesday to carry out various programmes with public and private institutions of higher learning around Baku.
