UUM Joint-venture With Langkawi Tourism Association, Adya Hotel
LANGKAWI, March 16 (Bernama)-- The School of Tourism, Hospitality and Environmental Management (STHEM) in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Langkawi Tourism Association (LTA) and Adya Hotel, Langkawi for collaborations on training, consultation and research on the tourism industry.
The MoU was signed by UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak, LTA deputy chairman Faiz Fahmi Sazali and chairman of Adya Hotel and PKB Hotel Management & Services, Nor Saidi Nanyan.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
In a statement issued today, UUM said the collaboration with LTA would provide training for its members in the tourism industry.
Meanwhile, the MoU with Adya Hotel included collaborations in consultation, research and placement of industry training, as well as recognition and certification for staff of PKB Hotel Management & Service in UUM.
Its objective is to set up Islamic hotel standard operating procedures (SOP), pioneered by PKB Hotel Management & Services.
At the event, Ahmad Bashah also launched the Langkawi International Tourism and Hospitality Research Center (LITH), a research centre under STHEM for collaborations between government agencies and the private centre, both local and foreign, in quality and high-impact research, especially in the fields of hospitality and tourism.
