UUM Aims To Be Among 200 Best Universities In The World By 2020
SINTOK, March 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is aiming to be among the 200 best universities in the world by 2020.
Its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said the plan was drawn up under the Strategic Planning Phase II for 2016 to 2020.
"This phase focuses on strengthening the position of the university in the international arena, that is to put us in the top 200 in the world, top 50 in Asia, top 10 in Southeast Asia and top five in Malaysia," he said during the 33rd anniversary of the university's establishment here, Sunday.
According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2016-2017, UUM is currently ranked 801 among 980 universities from 79 countries.
Mohamed Mustafa said a variety of mechanisms had been in place to achieve the goal, among them establishing six University Centres of Excellence, 21 School Centres of Excellence (S-CoE) and 32 Research Units to support more research, publishing, and consulting.
