KUALA LUMPUR, April 13 (Bernama) -- Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh gave an inspiring keynote address at the 7th International Conference and Exhibition on Higher Education in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia today.

The talk, entitled 'Redesigning Higher Education', touched on some of the challenges in higher education, including producing holistic graduates and employability.

Idris also mentioned about how the ministry was overcoming these challenges such as introducing the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025, the concept of integrated Cumulative Grade Point Average and the 2u2i work-based learning degree programme.

He also touched on how heutagogy, or self-directed learning, was taking over academia and students themselves were changing in terms of how they were learning.

"We have to rethink about how we teach and we have to reimagine how we do our thing with universities," he said.

The talk was streamed live on Idris's official Facebook page at and received 1,538 views as at 9.30pm today.

Idris said students used to be recipients of knowledge in the past but they were now co-curators of knowledge.

He also hoped 30 per cent of lecturers in Malaysia would have industry experience by the year 2020.

The two-day conference ending today saw the participation of speakers from around the world.
