PADANG BESAR, July 9 (Bernama) -- A hundred Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) and 100 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates from the Padang Besar Parliamentary constituency have been attending the KKLW (Rural and Regional Development Ministry) @People's Tuition Programme since May.

The primary school pupils were from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sena and SK Kampung Salangin and the secondary school students were from Berseri MARA Junior Science College (MRSM); Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Suleiman; SMK Tuanku Fauziah; SMK Abi; SMK Dato' Jaafar Hassan; and Maahad At-Tarbiyah Al-Islamiyah (MATRI).

The programme was organised by the MARA Education Foundation with the co-operation of the Puteri UMNO Movement.

MARA Education Foundation (YPM) chairman Datuk Zahida Zarikh Khan said the programme offered free tuition for core subjects for UPSR and SPM candidates from poor families who had moderate academic achievements specifically in the rural areas.

Zahida, who is also Puteri UMNO vice-chief, was met by reporters after the launching of the programme at the Berseri MRSM Hall, here today.

"The Education Department and the Puteri UMNO Division had selected the students and suitable locations for the UPSR tuition centres namely at SK Sena and SK Kampung Salang which have started since May.

"We pick Beseri MRSM as the tuition centre for SPM candidates and tuition classes have started since June," she added.
