KAJANG, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry may send talented golfers who excel in the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) for training abroad through a collaboration with the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA).

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the prospect was among topics discussed with the MGA as well as the number of talented golfers to be sent to the United States.

"This programme will involve a high cost. However, if everything goes well, we may send a group of players next year," he told reporters after meeting young golfers through the meet the minister session held at the Saujana Impian Golf Club, here today.

He added that during the meeting with MGA, discussions were held as to whether young golfers can be sent after PMR to continue their studies Miami or Florida and if they can continue to pursue their degree there. The proposal need to be studied before making a decision. The question of sponsorship must also be considered.

He said students who went to the US to pursue their studies and become professional golfers, had funded their trip.
