UMP Provides ECRL PLKI Programmes To Increase Graduate Marketability

KUANTAN, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has met with representatives of universities and skills institutes to discuss the Industrial Skills Training (PLKI) programme organised by the Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) to improve the skills of local graduates in the railway industry.

UMP vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim said in a statement today, the university had been appointed the Focal University for the ECRL training programme.

The PLKI programme which was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on June 14 has led to several memorandums of understanding between tertiary institutions and MRL as well as the China Communications Construction Company.

Meanwhile, in KUANTAN, more than 4,000 jobs will be on offer this weekend at the Alliance Steel (M) Sdn Bhd Career Carnival to youths and graduates looking for jobs in the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).

The carnival will be held on Aug 12 and 13 at the Sultan Ahmad Shah International Convention Centre in the Zenith Hotel here to source out workforce to support the company's operations in the Kuantan Malaysia-China Industrial Park.

In a statement issued today, the Chief Executive Officer of the East Coast Economic Region Development Council Datuk Seri Jebasingam Issace John said there were job vacancies at lower and senior levels in various fields including engineering, supervisory and management.
