200,000 Children To Attend Peers@Pre-School Prog Nationwide Monday

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- More than 200,000 pre-school children throughout the country will attend a one-day Reproductive and Social Health Education (Peers) Programme on Monday (Oct 9).

Education deputy director-general (Education Policy and Development) Datuk Sulaiman Wak said the pre-school children were from 11,000 pre-school classes nationwide.

"Through Peers, the pre-schoolers will be introduced to various organs including the male and female genitals. Important matters which needed to be instilled at this age are education on safe touch, unsafe touch and uncomfortable touch.

"This is because at this age, they do not know of touches that are unsafe and uncomfortable," he said in a media conference at the Education Ministry here today.

Sulaiman said the Peers: A Day @Pre-schools will be launched by Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid at Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 17(1) to raise the effectiveness of Peers lesson elements for pre-schools which is a refreshed form of the Peers module established since 2003.
