To do well in any subject you must be able to think correctly! Thinking skills are something you can learn and develop. Ask yourself questions as you read your textbooks and notes. Talk to other students whom you notice have good thinking skills. You can also sharpen your thinking skills by taking IQ tests available in books or the Internet, or playing games that require thinking such as word games.

MOE Will Implement KPLI If Teacher Shortages Persist

GEORGE TOWN, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry (MOE) intends to reintroduce the Post-Graduate Teaching Programme (KPLI) in the event of serious shortage of teachers.

Its deputy minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon said KPLI was expected to be implemented in the next five years.

"Currently, the teacher shortage problem in schools is not serious and is common occurrence whenever there are teachers who are going for retirement, or opt for early retirement or to take an extended annual leave," he told reporters after officiating the 2017 Education Convention organised by the National-type Chinese Primary Schools (SJKC) Headmasters Association here today.

Commenting on the shortage of teachers at SJKC, he said MOE would send 319 untrained temporary teachers (GSTT) nationwide on Oct 23.

Meanwhile, on the allegation that Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) questions were too difficult for 12-year-olds' level of thinking, Chong said the current education system was based on higher thinking level.

"The critics are adults who do not follow the current curriculum. If they do then they know that it is not that difficult. It is actually based on Higher Thinking Skills (KBAT) which has been implemented and taught at schools.

"Those questions appeared to be difficult because we (adults) are not used to it? We are implementing the Malaysia National Education Blueprint (PPPM) 2013-2025, due to our findings that our students, despite obtaining several As (in the exam), once they were placed in competitions or tests at the international level, they failed to excel," he said.

"MOE receives the largest allocation in the budget every year, hence, if our children failed to excel at the international level then it is a setback to the country's plan to achieve the developed nation status," he said.
