MOHE Wants Public Universities To Set Up Commercialisation Units

Last update: 29/11/2017
MELAKA, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has suggested that all public universities in the country set up their commercialisation units as a platform to commercialise products of researches by their lecturers.

MOHE Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Dr Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur said the units must also encourage more researchers or inventors among young lecturers to churn out innovative products that could be used at the grass-roots level.

In order to support the initiative, she said MOHE would also provide an allocation to help efforts to commercialise products that were produced at public universities.

"Actually, the effort to set up a commercialisation unit at public universities is up to the respective management of the universities but it is an important platform to call attention to the innovations.

"Furthermore, commercialisation is another MOHE agenda in efforts to uphold efforts of researchers comprising university lecturers," she told reporters after handing out prizes and closing the Innovation Carnival: UTeMex 2017 here today.

Also present was Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Jailani Mohd Nor.
